Key Plus Information

  • Workride is a free tool for businesses, designed to enhance employee benefits by providing a ride-to-work program that incentivizes healthier commuting options. Our program removes risk and handles all administrative tasks on behalf of the employer, ensuring tax compliance and making the process smooth and effortless for both management and participating employees.

With Workride Plus, employees can save significantly on their commute through our pre-tax benefit program. With Plus, net cost offsets range from 25–59% off the quoted sale price when selling to Workride, determined by the employee's personal income situation. This means employees can enjoy substantial savings while opting for healthier transportation options.

  • Workride is designed for employers to support you in commuting to work using active modes. Therefore, you must predominantly use your ride benefit for riding to and from work.

  • Should your employment end before the 12-month lease period concludes, you must follow the early termination procedure. Workride manages the exit process directly with the you (employee), who has to return the bike for a reasonable return and delivery fee, or at the time of departure, request a settlement to keep it, allowing Workride to recover any outstanding lease costs.

  • We highly recommend securing comprehensive insurance for your ride benefit to protect against potential damage or loss. Please inform your insurance provider about your ride’s replacement value to ensure adequate protection. Note: During the 12-month lease, you have legal possession of the bike and are fully liable for its replacement or repair, which is why insurance is so strongly recommended. If you do not have contents insurance, Workride can refer you to our insurance partner.

  • The quoted ride price is the amount the retailer charges Workride for the bike select. Retailers may add a surcharge of up to 5% to this price when selling to Workride, which allows them to offer all their bikes (even those on sale or clearance) through Workride. You can check with the in-store team if this applies. Your total benefit cost is then calculated by adding 10% to that final quoted ride price. For example, a $2000 quoted ride price becomes a $2200 total benefit cost. This 10% cost is because your employer is using the Workride Plus program, which includes financing and administration costs.

  • Using Workride Plus you can expect a net offset of between 25.59%.
Please use Workride’s savings estimator to understand the financial impact of your ride benefit. For questions about how salary sacrifice affects you personally, please consult your trusted financial advisor.

Take Home Pay Impact

The "Workride Offset" breaks down into two main components: tax savings and the smart use of your income. Due to the salary sacrifice, your taxable income reduces, so you end up paying less tax overall (PAYE + ACC Levy). Additionally, a small portion of the money that used to go towards other commitments, like KiwiSaver or student loans, is now assisting in covering the cost of your ride for an instant benefit.

Ride Cost:

This is the total price quoted from your chosen retailer for your ride benefit, including any applicable retailer surcharges.

Total Offset:

With Workride, you're essentially swapping out taxable income for a new ride. The cost of the ride is taken from your pre-tax salary, which lowers your taxable income. With a lower taxable income, you pay less in income tax (PAYE) and ACC Levy, creating tax savings. Instead of paying tax, and then buying a ride with what's left, we help you remove the tax step altogether meaning a lower equivalent cost to you!

Equivalent Cost:

This is your actual take-home pay impact after the salary sacrifice. It represents what the ride effectively costs you from your net pay, factoring in all tax savings from reduced PAYE and ACC, plus any changes to KiwiSaver and student loan contributions.

Offset (%):

This shows the total offset as a percentage of the ride price, representing how much of the quoted price is offset through the salary sacrifice arrangement.
